Why Test For Pyroluria | Vitality and Wellness

Why is Pyroluria Testing Important?

Self-diagnosis of Pyroluria or Pyrrole Disorder can be fraught with the potential dangers of treating yourself with the condition that you may not have. People who rely on their Pyroluria Symptoms alone for a diagnosis can unwittingly be putting their health at risk by taking excessive amounts of nutritional supplements. For example, too much vitamin B6 can cause nerve damage, and excessive amounts of zinc suppress immune function and compete with copper, manganese and iron for absorption, resulting in their deficiencies.

People with multiple Pyroluria symptoms may indeed suffer from Pyroluria, but the symptoms may also be caused by straight zinc, vitamin B6 or biotin deficiency and not Pyroluria. Alternatively, health conditions such as dysbiosis, candida, leaky gut syndrome, adrenal fatigue, insomnia and excessive stress can mimic many of the symptoms of Pyroluria.

We have had many patients with multiple Pyroluria symptoms only to find they tested negative for Pyroluria, and conversely, people with only 1 or 2 symptoms test positive. The only way to be 100% sure that Pyroluria is the cause of a person's health problem is to do the Pyroluria Test previously known as the Kryptopyrrole Test. The test accurately measures HPL or Pyrrole levels and helps determine the best course of treatment. Pyroluria testing can save people a lot of money on ineffective or damaging supplementation if the results are negative.

What is Involved in a Pyroluria Test?

The Pyroluria Test is simple to do at home test. A urine sample is taken in a darkened room (as light destroys the sample), wrapped in aluminium foil and frozen overnight. A courier picks up the test sample, packs it in dry ice, then delivers it to the laboratory for analysis. It is often advisable to stop all nutritional supplements for four days before completing the Pyroluria Test as this rules out any false negatives that dietary supplements can cause.
